Visiting Professor Position in Astrophysics, Cosmology, and Gravitation at UFES (Vitória-ES, Brazil) – Deadline: 31/1/2026
The PPGCosmo program anticipates offering a one-year Visiting Professor position for non-Brazilian citizens (professor visitante estrangeiro), renewable for up to three additional years, with a starting date between June and December 2026. Applicants are not required to hold a permanent position to apply.
PPGCosmo is a Brazilian PhD program in Astrophysics, Cosmology, and Gravitation, covering a broad range of research topics from theoretical to observational studies, with participation in major collaborations such as LIGO, Virgo, Einstein Telescope, J-PAS, Euclid, LSST, DELVE, Pierre Auger Observatory, SWGO, and CTAO. It currently comprises 18 faculty members, 28 PhD students, and 5 postdoctoral researchers. See cosmologia.ufes.br and cosmo-ufes.org for details.
We aim to recruit a researcher with strong and ongoing international collaborations. Only candidates with 15 or more peer-reviewed publications will be considered. The salary is at the full professor level, R$24,800 per month before taxes. The successful candidate will be able to supervise PhD students and will be expected to teach graduate courses (two 60-hour courses per semester).
The program is based at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), in Vitória, the capital of Espírito Santo State. Vitória is a well-connected and pleasant medium-sized coastal city. Faculty members usually live within walking distance of both the university campus and the seaside, in some of the most pleasant neighborhoods of Vitória. The cost of living in Vitória is moderate compared to other Brazilian capitals.
