This is first announcement and call for papers of the
XVI Conference on Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics & Nonlinear
Physics (MEDYFINOL'08), that will take place in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from
1 to 5 December 2008.
If you are interested in nonlinear science,
complex systems & stochastic phenomena, and you would like to attend the
conference, please fill the registration form and send an abstract of your
conference contribution using the automatic submission system at our web page
http://medyfinol08.fisica.edu.uy
The XVI MEDYFINOL Conference follows a series of biannual conferences
that met great success attracting many interesting presentations. Previous
conferences took place in Mar del Plata, Argentina (2006), La Serena, Chile
(2004), Colonia, Uruguay (2002), Córdoba, Argentina (1999), Canela, Brazil
(1997), Tucumán, Argentina (1996), Bariloche, Argentina (1995), Montevideo,
Uruguay (1994), Mar del Plata, Argentina (1993 & 1991), Santiago, Chile
(1990), Puerto Iguazú, Argentina (1989), Mar del Plata, Argentina (1988), and
Lujan, Argentina (1987 & 1986).
The MEDYFINOL 2008 is organized by
the joint efforts of Universidad de la República, Uruguay; Universidad de
Buenos Aires, Argentina; Universidad de los Andes, Chile; and Universitat
Politecnica de Catalunya, Spain. Sponsoring institutions are the Centro
Latinoamericano de Física (CLAF) and European Physical Society through the
Interdivisional Group of Physics for Development (EPS-IGPD).
The
overall objective of the Conference Series is to bring together the
Latin-American scientific community working on stochastic & nonlinear
phenomena, to discuss and identify relevant problems in the area, to keep the
community updated with the new developments, and to analyze the tendencies in
field. To promote international collaborations, we welcome researchers not
only from Latin-America but anyone interested in the opportunity of
interchanging ideas in a relaxed environment and the development of new
scientific collaborations. Emphasis will be put in the participation of
Latin-America young scientists.
Topics of interest include
fundamentals of statistical physics, fluctuation phenomena, Brownian motion,
entropy and other measures of information, complexity, granular material,
structured and complex fluids, chaos and pattern formation, fluid dynamics,
synchronization, complex networks, biological physics, neural networks, time
series analysis, interdisciplinary physics, dynamics of social systems, and
econophysics..
The conference programme will be comprised of invited
talks, contributed talks, and poster sessions. The International Advisory
Committee (IAC) will select contributed papers and their mode of presentation.
The proceedings of the Conference will be published in a Special Issue of the
International Journal of Bifurcations and Chaos (IJBC). Invitations to
contribute to the proceedings will be done by the organizers and the members
of the IAC, and will be subjected to the standard review process of IJBC.
Please note that deadline for abstract submissions, if you are not
requesting financial support, is October 10th, 2008, and the program will be
defined soon after the deadline. Applications requesting financial
support must be sent before September 19th, 2008.
Depending on the
funds that the organizers are able to raise, financial help will be offered to
PhD students, posdocs, and young Latin-American scientists (under 30). The
help will consist of the registration fee and/or the hotel expenses. The
registration fee will cover the conference welcome dinner, the coffee breaks,
and the lunch meals during the conference. Financial support should be
requested when filling the registration form. Given the small budget of the
conference, please avoid requesting financial help if you have other sources
of funding. Response regarding financial requests will be given shortly after
the deadline (sept. 19).
